[Conference Adventure] Students of Color Conference: Day 1 analysis

Waking up a little earlier than usual this morning I was excited about going to this little conference in eastern Washington. The chance to not only learn about myself but to learn about others is really what got me interested in going. But I was quite nervous at the thought of socializing with large groups of people. So I did the only thing I could think of that helps with these situations-channel my inner Pinkie Pie!

It worked like a charm! I was able to socialize quite easily! Thank you Pinkie! Anywho the heart of the day to me personally was the African American caucus. In the style of a "stereotypical" black baptist church, the speakers taught us what it meant to be black and how we are unique and powerful in our own ways.

To be honest, I felt alive in that room, more alive than I've ever been before. What was once a room of complete strangers quickly became a giant family. We all shared our struggles with being a person of color and cheered our successes and triumphs over racism and prejudice.

The speakers taught us some self-esteem building tips to keep our selves awake and aware of who we are and our true beauty.

if there is anything I'd have to say about my first impression of this conference, it's that you need to be here. No matter how confident you are in your abilities to find love or get a job. There is something for everyone from all walks of life to learn from this conference.
